Long time no comment here!
Ah~ the typical la...J,

Long time no comment here!

Ah~ the typical labeling of common Filipino.

These are the situations I observed since I was kid:

-Filipina gets married to foreign man. The Filipina is then seen as an 'extremely rich' person because she got married with a dollar earner.

-Filipina-married-foreign-man is expected by 'these' people to give off money for free since she has a lot to spare *headache*

-if Filipina-married-foreign-man gives money to those who are needing them, she is considered as a 'GOOD PERSON' and you hear VERY HIGH PRAISES from them

-if Filipina-married-foreign-man denies to give money because of various reasons, expect this woman to be labeled depending on the reason: selfish, 'mata-pobre' (I don't know if this fits but I tend to hear them a lot. This is a Visayan term.), arrogant, etc.

-the term prostitute is generally labeled to Filipinas who are married to white men, particularly to Filipinas wearing revealing clothes beside their foreign man partner.

-when you stand up for your beliefs, like what your wife did, they get UPSET, MAD (put anything here that spells WAR and GENOCIDE), etc.

subservience (I just learned it): *sigh* I have difficulty facing people expecting such things. Everytime I go against these people, I end up hurting myself, crying in the darkest corner of the Earth because they hate my perspectives and they batter hurtful words which I cannot bear. I do hurt them at the same time (not physically), which is a balance.

A few of these Filipina-married-foreign-man are forced to give in (subservient it is) because they feared to be labeled or hear false rumors about them. It is a scary thought for these women being ganged up and branded. I see them a lot - but when I get to know these labeled Filipinas, they turn out to be not what I hear them to be. That is why I opened my eyes not to judge and resent these Filipinas because they have reasons and its their choice which needs respect and I respect them. Before, I would scorn these Filipinas but now, I always give them a cheerful smile saying 'Live happily'. I have learned a lot not jumping to conclusions because now I feel it is wrong.

Situations like these are not only common amongst Filipina-married-foreign-man but also to women married to men with high paying jobs like the OFWs. Just because they are working overseas does not mean they are flooded with money.

I admire your wife wishing I could be like her - standing up for my own beliefs. But I am striving to be such a person. Please send my regards to your wife.

SeinaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
